'Magic Mr Meaner' starts off the CD brilliantly; we're immediately
introduced to Urusen's appealing acoustic style and catchy
melodies and lyrics. 'Believed' is a real musical treat, the
beautiful guitars blended with the soft vocals is just simply
great to listen and relax to…definitely one of this
CD's highlights!
There are many slow, thoughtful tracks on this album to contrast
the more upbeat songs. 'Tell Me', 'Sooner or Later', 'Caught
Hanging' and 'Wanted' are all peaceful, tranquil songs, whereas
'Piano Song' is the main ballad of the CD, with gentle music
and thoughtful lyrics that form a wonderful song with genuine
feeling. 'Government Anecdote' is more fast-paced, with a
catchy chorus, while 'Meanest Sister' sees the return of the
harmonica, creating a slow, almost country-sounding ballad.
This track leads on to 'Smoking A Fag', which is a light,
catchy song with a strong indie feel. The album ends with
'Superhero'. This is slow but catchy with thoughtful lyrics;
yet another highlight and a strong way to end the CD.
All of the songs on this album are simple yet effective and
the appealing melodies and lyrics will stay with you for a
long time. Collectively, these songs form an album of amazing
depth and beauty; a brilliant CD to relax to. As a side note,
the cartoon style artwork showcased in the CD booklet is another
reason to buy this CD and check out this band! Rating
